White Desert is Antarctica’s only “hotel.” Well, at least as close to a hotel as possible in the icy climate. Hotels aren’t allowed to be built on the fragile landscape, but White Desert got around this obstacle by building luxury campsites and futuristic pods that can be taken down and completely rebuilt each year. For up to $100,000 for an 8-day trip– over over $14,000 for a single day visit– the world’s richest people can visit the icy paradise and lounge on fur covered sofas and beds in solar-heated tents, sipping drinks poured over Jurassic-era ice.
Adrenaline pumping exploration is the new rage among the affluent. At White Desert’s two camps– Whichaway and Wolf’s Fang– guests get to enjoy views and landscapes seen by few people in the world. They hangout with penguins, explore neon-blue ice tunnels, take arctic safaris, and climb ice mountains. After a hard’s day of exploring, they return to camp where they’re served gourmet six-course meals in richly decorated dining rooms.
Founded by Robyn and Patrick Woodhead, White Desert can only host 300 guests per year. It’s one of the most exclusive accommodations in the entire world! It’s meant to cater to those who love adventure and luxury. They’re able to take warm showers and indulge in the Snow Bar– but the most adventurous can also camp in canvas tents overnight. Are you ready to explore one of the world’s most unique hotels? Then throw on your warmest clothing and let’s head to White Desert!
