A man wearing only a coat and carrying what was described as an “assault rifle” opened fire in a Waffle House parking lot in Nashville, Tennessee, before entering the restaurant and continuing an assault that killed four and wounded seven.
The suspect, believed to be Travis Reinking, 29, later removed his coat and left the scene nude, eluding police capture.
James Shaw Jr., 29, heroically wrested the rifle from the shooter, preventing even more carnage, police say.
SWAT teams converged outside an apartment complex in nearby Antioch Sunday using a loudspeaker demanding someone come out of the building. A loud bang was heard in the area about the same time.
The incident began about 3:25 a.m.
The suspect first fired from the parking lot, shooting two men and shattering the glass window at the front of the restaurant before going inside and continuing to pelt the restaurant
